From top, clockwise: Yours Truly photographing Red Velvet Cheesecake, a cooking class at Woodlawn School, and the aforementioned cheesecake. These photos by Todd Sumlin.
Remember that mysterious photographer pictured at the bottom of my Red Velvet Cheesecake post? That was Todd Sumlin, and I finally get to reveal some big news to you about why he came to photograph me photographing my cheesecake (say that three times fast).
It’s because Willow Bird Baking was featured in The Charlotte Observer! Kathleen Purvis, the food editor, contacted me some weeks ago for an interview, and the article made the front page of yesterday’s paper. To say that I’m humbled and so, so grateful is an understatement. Thank you for visiting Willow Bird Baking and reading, baking, and eating with me!

In other news, congratulations to Jenna, who won the Pestos With Panache giveaway! Jenna will be receiving an email shortly with instructions on how to claim her prize. In the meantime, even if you didn’t win, feel free to skip on over and try some of their fun pesto flavors for yourself.

do you ever sell your baked goods?
Hi Terry,
I don’t at this time — my kitchen isn’t inspected (and can’t be, officially, since I have an indoor pet — a rule in NC!) You never know in the future, though 🙂
Congrats, that is such great news for you!
Thanks, Lauren!
Hi Julie – good for you! How exciting, well-deserved! YAY!
LL
I found my way to you via Food Journal! Now, I subscribe!) Very impressive. . . congratulations on the piece; you’ll go far. Iwish I would have had a teacher like you when I was in middle school!
Aw, thanks, Rosemary!!
Hi Julie! I found out about your blog through the great article in the paper. (I am in Charlotte too). I am now a subscriber and am looking forward to following you! I can’t wait to work my way through all your great recipes. Today I am going to make your marbled chocolate cheesecake brownies and then this weekend the lemon blueberry crumble bars. Your blog may be very dangerous for me! 🙂
Hurray, welcome Janet! I’m so happy to have you. I hope you love those brownies — we sure did! And the lemon crumble bars are one of my favorites! Enjoy, and let me know what you think!
Congratulations on your article! I found your blog through a link in the Fine Cooking website (I think). I made the Red Velvet Cheesecake and it was a hit with the co-workers. I look forward to fattening them all up with more of your yummy recipes!

Julie, how exciting to have an article in the newspaper! Congratulations!!! I loved reading the article and about all the good stuff you’re up to, but my favorite part was when I read that you’re still calling people “rock stars”. Glad you’re staying true to your sweet self!
Aw 🙂 Thanks, Cammy! I miss you!!
Congratulations on the newspaper article. I followed the link to read it and it was excellent. Really enjoy your blog.
Thank you, Judy!

Woa! Congrats! That’s so awesome. I’m a fellow Charlottean but I now live in Bogotá, Colombia as a newlywed with my hubby. I love meeting fellow NCinians (sorry for the shortcut). I will be subscribing to this blog and look forward to seeing more from you. By the way, the trifle looks great (I’m not a sprinkles fan but everything else looks tempting).
Thank you! What a move — from Charlotte to Colombia!
That’s so awesome Julie! Congratulations!! Certainly well deserved. Have been seeing your blog around a lot, now a follower 🙂
